Default Replacing Motherboard should i change the cpu

I am currently studying to do my Comp a+ and a friend has given me a old computer to practice on which needs repairing.

The pc is currently running xp pro, 512mb ram , 3.2 Intel Celeron.

The pc needs a new psu and motherboard. This has got me thinking should i change the cpu or just put the old one into the new motherboard. I was also going to buy 1gb of ram.

I will be using this pc to test equipment on and that's about it.

Any ideas.

Can you still get hold of that motherboard (socket number)? If you want to change the motherboard and CPU why not just buy any CPU and motherboard?

I can't see the logic in your question sorry.

I'd almost say throw it away...

So the only things worth saving are the cpu, memory, Hard-drive & optical drive...

Look at a CCL Computers entry level bundle.

P.S. My next ( 3rd ) MoBo arrived from ebay today... LGA1156 adding 2x GTS460 OC + X-FI and Sata III + USB 3. 4 Gb of ram for now and a G6950 ! cooling by a Corsair H70 - just need a case now !
