Start, my computer, right click on it and go properties, go to advanced, performance and then advanced again. You will vertual memory option click on change and increase the amount, choose set and then ok everything.

Oops you stated physical memory, stick some more in in that case or see proccess is taking all the memory.

First off I'd try disabling everything from your start up - you can always re-enable things that you really need but chances are there are lots of processes starting up and going on in the background that don't really need to be.

Go to Start -> Run, type msconfig and hit Enter. Now, go to the Startup tab and disable everyhting in there. Then, go to the Services tab, check the "Hide all Microsoft services" and then click "Disable All".

Restart your machine and check how it's running and if there is anything you need re-enable. It may also be worth noting the number of running processes in task manager both before and after you do this to see how many you actually managed to get rid of.
