Quite a few Sony PC's have integrated Firewire and I'm pretty sure some Motherboards have it too. You could buy one of these http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPa...duct_Id=196216

i used a fw 800 cable just this week for the digital camcorder, worked a treat and a bargain

Lots of pc manufactures followed suit with FW 400, sony being the one who used it in a slightly different manner.
USB 2.0 arrived and many manufacturers moved over to that standard just as apple started bringing in the new FW 800. So whilst there are loads of companies that support it, it really is Apple who push it.

It is actually a mac thing as apple were the first to integrate the firewire 400 into their products and make it mainstream.
Lots of pc manufactures followed suit with FW 400, sony being the one who used it in a slightly different manner.
USB 2.0 arrived and many manufacturers moved over to that standard just as apple started bringing in the new FW 800. So whilst there are loads of companies that support it, it really is Apple who push it.
