Question Calling Mac Gurus - airport query....

Wierd one.

MacBook Pro (old silver key one 2 Ghz Intel Core Duo) running 10.5.8.

Been running quite happily on my wireless network (Airport Express) up until today.

Now it won't find the network, yet my NEW MacBook Pro, sat next to it will.
Yet, when I put the lappy within 2 feet of the base station, it finds the network.

As soon as I move out of the room and put it back on the desk (about 10 feed away (I've got line-of-sight with the Airport)..... no network. The search can't even see the SSID.

ANy suggestions?

I've got around it at the moment via a CAT5 cable.... but this wont last as its an unsightly cable and "she" won't have it!!

Help

DAn

it happens sometimes. My old powerbook on 10.5.8 does the same thing, especially if it is gone to sleep.

delete the airport prefs, delete the ssid out of your network prefs
download the airport updater from apple's website and re-run it.
Then making sure airport is turned off, reboot, turn it back on and hunt for the wireless network

don't forget to do all the above wearing one blue sock and one red sock - (the red sock must be on the right foot when facing the Airport AP, unless you live in Dunstable -- then it needs to be yellow with blue strips)

it also works better doing it after your evening meal, for some reason

Very good advice, though an air of smugness does help, whilst sipping a nice cinnamon latte

This says all that needs to be said about trolling PC users.....

Dan

ps couldn't get the airport updater off Apple. A new one is out, but no download option yet.

She's got a wired connection in the meantime - will flush it over the next week or so (need to as it's my old machine, and I only set up a new user rather than new install! )
