Default Any sucess stories from the 360 'red ring of death'?

Unfortunatly the xbox went up the swanny last night! It started hanging on Wed, but last night it was game over!

I know what needs to be done, and managed to source the bits that I need (washers etc) so I was wondering if anyone has had the ring of death, but managed to fix it?

Just to add it's a 3 rrod.

The x clamp fix will be the first attempt, then go from there.

It's not under warrenty, it's void.
Anyway Microsoft don't send back your xbox fixed, they just send back a same spec refurbed model.

Why is it void?

What is wrong with a new Xbox, over your own broken one?

X Clamp doesn't fix the problem, it just gets it working for an unknown time.

I was given a RROD 360 for fixing a relatives PC. I just sent it back to MS and they replaced the bits and sent it back.

If your sure they won't take it back then he did wrap it in a towel and put on the radiator. It worked for a bit.

I think its something to do with the chip getting hot and the chip lifting off the mobo. I think!

I am sure I can't send it back, and the towel thing sometimes works if the console has over heated, BUT I don't know the damage yet, and further damage to the board by heating it up might not be a good thing to do.

Same here. I reckon I am cursed when it comes to electrical stuff
My faithful old lappy is the latest cursed item. I am getting sick of replacing stuff.

My Son's xbox did the same thing. He is out with his pals at the mo'. Will ask him tomorrow what happened. I know we had to send it away and he was lost for about 10 days even though he's got all the gadgets under the sun

All you need to do is register for repair, online, and it tells you if your console is elligible for free repair. Then you just send it to them.

Unless you've hacked it of course

Thanks Lee. Hope your well?

Well it's said things happen in 3's. So it's clutch, filter (fish tank) and xbox! Hopefully that's it now as April was a very expensive month!

It's most definately not under warranty. Otherwise I would have sent it off this morning.

Mine was two years old when it got the RROD and they fixed it for free. The RROD warranty is three years. As I mentioned, the Xbox website tells you if it is or in't - have you actually tried to get a repair booked?

If you can't get the free repair, sell the knackered one on ebay and buy a new one - there are plenty of offers out there.

I'm confident that 'the package' off e bay will provide me with all that is needed to attempt to fix it. If that doesn't work, yep I will probably sell it for spares.

I do have an original xbox in the loft, so if all else fails......

Not that it really matters to your case as your warranty is void but when did microsoft start sending back refurbuished models instead of the original one you send them?

I got mine done about a year ago and it was my one I got back, reason I know its the same one is my eject button is very hard to press.

You may have got yours back mate, all I'm saying is if you send your console to be fixed they don't have to send your actual one back, just a same spec model.

I suppose it's so that you (the customer) is not waiting several days (weeks) while they mess about with stubbourn bits of soldering or re installing new hardwear etc.

This way they can assess the damage, keep it, but in the meantime, they fire another back to you (the customer). Then yours is kept in line, fixed and given to someone else next time.

Obviously if yours is a five min job, they might just do it and send yours straight back. Also if it's fluffed they don't have to fork out for a brand new model each time. They simply give a few new ones at the start of the process and the rest, I have just explained. It's much cheaper that way.

It's not rocket science. And Im sure you had your old one back with the dodgy button.
