I've a new hobby
Getting old games to run on new kit
Gawd, it's hard work sometimes, but on others (like my latest dumb idea) it's quite fun
I decided to get Baldurs Gate out again and run it all the way through from the start to BGII Throne of Baal (stupidly I've never completed it!)
Trying this Windows 7 64-bit? Yeah right.
Virtual PC? Yup - free download, and install XP SP3, only to discover that the video card presented is an S3/Trio64! with 4 that's FOUR Mb RAM!!!
So that didn't work.
Then I remember XP mode and get that downloaded - not a hope, using the XP wrapper was just the same damn problem as a full on virtual p.c.. Except you get to see the nightmare in a Windows 7 environment.
Then I discover Baldurs Gate tutu - what an amazing piece of software! Uses the BG2 Infinity engine for BG1 and basically creates an amalgam of the two games in one folder! Stonking!
Kind of spoilt the whole purpose of the original idea of course, but now I have BG1 running at 1600x1200 with all the enhancements of BG2 (including the new character sets and rules)
Kiss goodbye to any social life for a few weeks
