anyone recommend me a 3 in 1 printer that is cheap for ink
some printers are cheap to buy but are expensive for ink whats your experience with different brands?

Kodak. 
I bought one for about £80 and the ink costs £10 colour and £6 black. I had a canon and epson before this and this is by far a better printer and the inks last just as long. I was paying over £50 for the epson ink

kodak, are cheap however I've just bought an A3 Brother DCP 6690 and the replacement ink is £14 for the black and £10 for each colour for the high capacity items (i know still not cheap)
However I bought some replacement cartriges from Inkrite and they where £3.70 for black and £3.18 for the colours and I cant tell the difference!
