Default Tracking cookies etc, where from?

Hi, I have AVG installed, and when it's completed it's daily scan, it often comes up with 6-12 "potentially dangerous objects" in the form of tracking cookies.

Firstly, should I be worried? They all end up healed or moved to the virus vault.

Secondly, is there a way to check where they are coming from, which site, etc, or is it not worth the time?

TIA

What browser are you using? If it's firefox then you can get a "View Cookies" add on that will allow you to view cookies, what you may be able to do is cross reference the info AVG finds with a cookie and then analyze where it comes from. If I recall, one of the parameters for a cookie will be the domain where it comes from, so that will allow you to find out, well, where it's coming from.

I *think* the reason AVG shows these up is because some people really don't want any site recording where they have been and where they are going to (using the http referrer item you can get the referring url of a site, ie; where you came from). Most of them are probably used to build stats of where people are visiting a site from, but some could be malicious.

Cookies are useful on sites where you purchase stuff, I've just spent a week fighting W7 vs an SSD and as I have a clean installation, I wasn't able to buy a PC case @ CCL without enabling cookies.

So they are not all bad !
