XBOX 360 dead
My X360 has just died, it comes on, then the screen freezes with corrupt picture, lots of pixelated blocks and cant do anything.
It last for around 1 minute before dying.
After a few goes I now get the RROD - Why do these things happen just before Chrimbo? Grrrrrr

Good news & bad news...
you've missed the deadline for repair & return before Chrimbo
it was the 11th if i recall....
however RROD & E74 errors are covered by a 3yr warranty
Look on the back of your unit around the power inlet socket....
16.2v = xenon / zepher chipset.... will fail and need xclamp repair
14.xx V mid range chipset... one if the chips (CPU or GPU is the new 65n unit) more reliable
12v = Jasper chipset.. both CPU & GPU are 65n chips
the new arcades are supposed to be jasper chipsets, but check the voltages before you buy...
if i recall you can if you shop arount get an arcade from £109-150
Mart

All 360's run at 12 volts.
Its the current that differentiates them:
16.5amps Zephyr
14.2amps Falcon
12.1amps Jasper
The older the unit the higher the current draw, the current rating is printed just above the power socket on the 360 casing.
EDIT
After checking my 360 after reading this thread, I've discovered its a lot more complicated than I thought as some units are mis-labelled!!
My 360 has its socket labelled as a 12volt 16.5amp unit and has a HDMI port. BUT the power supply is a 12volt 14.2amp unit!? After a bit of internet searching I found this site: http://www.360-hq.com/xbox-tutorials-91.html which shows the various power socket configurations and what chipsets they supply.
My unit has been mislabelled as a 16.5amp Zephyr unit, when in fact it has a Falcon chipset.

Are the elites supposdly more reliable than the older models ?? what drive is normally fitted to the latest black wii elite ?? chippable ???!!!
any tips on best way to prevent RROD- have read to keep unit laying down / dont move unit whilst disk is playing, remove harddrive every so often and clean out where dust has collected- any truth in the above ??
just bought a new Elite complete with four games ( £200 in Game ) for young lad for xmas, will be playing this along side his softmodded / drivekey fitted Wii !!
