O2 allow unlocking of iPhone
According to Matthew Key (Head of O2) from 10th November onwards...
Ask the Boss: Matthew Key, head of O2, answers your questions - Times Online
Which is good news as I'm slightly bored with jailbreaking / unlocking.

That's certainly very interesting and good for the consumer. Not having to hack to unlock is a good thing, though jailbreaking is still handy if you want to add non authorized apps to the phone, and I'm not just talking about cracked apps.

The only problem at the moment is that I bought the iPhone from someone a while ago and I can't fill in their form as I don't have an O2 phone number. At this moment that is the only way they can unlock the phone.
