Not owning a Mac, but owning a 3GS with 4.26.08 baseband... I'd like to keep it that way when I upgrade from 3.0.1 to 3.1.2

My 3.0.1 is currently jailbroken, but to get to 3.1.2 I need a custom IPSW built using Pwnage tool 3.1.4 - which is OSX only. I have found one 3.1.2 custom but it has pineapple logos, removes the operator name, etc. etc. - I'd rather stay pretty much standard look'n'feel.

Can anyone help me by either pointing me towards a downloadable 3.1.2 which is pretty much standard (ie Apple logos etc.) but doesnt update the baseband and hopefully includes Cydia, or creating one and hosting it or FTPing it to me?????

The carrier logo going might not be and option that has been set. Ivdont have it on my jb'd 3gs. It still works fine though. I think it is due to the file storing it now being encrypted.

I might know someone who has a 3.1.2 Ipsw file that meets your requirements

Blackra1n might do what you want - and it's available on PC......

Ideally I want to retain my current baseband, which I don't think Blackra1n will allow - as it jailbreaks after a proper 3.1.2 update, complete with baseband - have looked at it though, and it may be interesting in the future.

righto - I *thought* the advantage of doing Blackrain was that it doesn't affect the baseband (which if I got it right, is the phone network, yes?)

So you could jailbreak, without affecting the network....

However, if I've read it right, you're correct anyway!!!

This from iClarified's guide on blackra1n:

WARNING: Even though the GeoHot jailbreak supports 3.1.2 do not update if you are on iPhone OS 3.0.1 or 3.0. You will lose your unlock. Use PwnageTool to safely update to 3.1 without performing a baseband update. If you really must have 3.1.2 then wait for the next version of PwnageTool. If you have already updated to 3.1 or 3.1.2 without using PwnageTool then you've lost the ability to unlock for the time being. You can now use BlackRa1n to at least regain your jailbreak

From what I'm aware, the only current way to retain your baseband pre 3.1.2 baseband and still run 3.1.2 is by using a custom ipsw

Allegedly.... if it does appear blank (ie not appear) then you can use MakeItMine (Cydia, Utilities) to set it explicitly to whatever you want - O2-UK, Rogers, Vodafoney, Markusnet, whatever...

is it worth jailbreaking the iphone to get the cracked apps on??? I use ine with some free games but on Newzbin there are loads of iphone apps and games. Is it worth the hassle of jailbreaking a phone to put these on???

won't thread-hijack, but suffice to say, it is EASY to Jailbreak Took 5 mins.

As to why you would jailbreak, well, that's a different matter
I did it just to put my own graphics and text alert sounds.

Although if you know where to look you can put on most iphone software.
