over the last couple of days, poss a week, have noticed that windows explorer, searches, run commands, task manager etc have not been responding, then all of a sudden ALL the windows come alive at once. I put it down to our remote software as it eats cpu time, but it's on mine as well & other engineers when working locally.
Myself & one of the other engineers think its virus/trojan related.
can't see any naughty processes running.

any ideas???

I have noticed that with bearshare and ie on my home PC when they both run they hog masses of CPU time (noticed as temp was 54 deg :eek ).

I ran a full virus scan and a trojan was found that launches some porno windows randomly. Cleared it out and IE is ok, but Bearshare is still playing up. I didnt install SaveNow or any other components so will lookinto it further later.

BearShare is Spyware unfortunately....thats why it hogs your CPU time.....

Shunty - I've noticed this, do your explorer windows hang too? I'm going to check it out tonight...

There are commands to hide processes from the tasklist on all platforms, so you need a process viewer that shows em all.....

http://www.xmlsp.com/pview/prcview.htm

It'll show you hidden processes as well.
