What I would like is a Windows 'fast' mode, that can go from boot to live with perhaps just IE in a few seconds. So when I'm in a hurry to check something I can choose this on a boot screen and away I go.

Other than that, as mentioned previously, I don't understand why people want to not use Windows ... (or a Mac with OS X).

i've been playing with linux on my laptop and I think it's great.

I installed the latest fedora, ubuntu, kubuntu and opensuse. of all these I liked ubuntu 9.04 the most and, once I got adept at configuring the thing, it booted quicker to the desktop than vista... only by 10 seconds though.

Since playing with Linux I have come to realize what an excellent job MS have done bringing an OS to the masses that isn't too difficult to use and, with all the hardware people on side with driver support, is easy to chop and change hardware.

I really like linux but, for me at least, it sits in the laptop/mobile OS with very limited user requirement for esoteric hardware and peripherals.

Hardware suppliers will always develop drivers for windows first and then think about other OSs. Whilst they think like that I'll be using windows for my high end PC.
