Bit of advise MS Licensing.
The company I work for currently has no legitimate licenses.
I am in the process of getting them legal but am stuck on the process.
I'm torn between Open Subscription (rental over a 3 year period with nothing at the end) or Open Value (outright purchase with some Software Assurance on key products.
We will need:
15 x Windows 7 Professional
15 x MS Office Professional (with Software Assurance)
15 x Server CALS
15 x Exchange CALS (with Software Assurance)
2 x Windows 2008 R2 Standard
1 x Exchange Server 2007 Standard (with Software Assurance)
Bottom line is that outright purchase is just over £13k
If we go down the rental path, I'd need to buy Windows 7 @ £150 each, and then rent the rest. This will be @ about £3.2k per year for 3 years. (£9800).
Any thoughts, as this is doing my nut in. I'm a tight bugger at the best of times & am reluctant to spend money!

Speak to a proper Microsoft partner and let them present the options to you.
The base level is eOpen (Open Licence)
Then there is Select
Then there is Enterprise
As an option on both Select and Enterprise you can add SA (Software Assurance) which opens loads of doors. The Mdop (Microsoft Desktop Optimisation Suite)suite is fantastic but costs and is wildly overkill for you. Also consider the extras you receive with Select and Enterprise. I think the Select plan comes with 10 days free training off Microsoft courses so straight away that's £3000 saved. Microsoft want to tie you in, if you think about it logically and work out all your future plans with regards to upgrades it can be very beneficial.

Wild card thought...
Not as easy to "manage" but what about buying new PC base units with Windows 7 Pro (once it ships). £150 per Windows 7 license is almost 50% of the cost of a reasonable spec base unit these days.
