Damn pc is playing up

Had to put a new 300w psu in as my old one blew its guts, so went to pc world and bought a new one, plugged it in and now every time i attempt to start my pc up i get General 40 Errors, seems like it's not seeing or reading the hdd's, but in the bios they are there.....

Any suggestions? - Thinking of filing my pc thru the window!!

PSU shouldn't affect the m/board or bios unless it is of an incorrect type or faulty. Following on from that, it shouldn't affect windows either...

However, check the seating of the power leads to the m/board.

Also, & this is more likely, check all the drive cables from the m/board to the HDDs - may have become dislodged when installing new PSU.

Error 40 is a floppy error on most makes of BIOS. Check the cable or remove it temporarily, you can then usually press akey to get past the error.

Thumbs up

Talking about minor errors, i put a pc together the other night for myself, after spending years of playing with PCs / Windows, for other people. I blew a PSU, for connecting the floppy drive connector the wrong way around!!

Oups, took it back they replaced the PSU, even after me pointing out that the circuit fuse was gone Oh, and they replaced the 1300 MHz processor, motherboard and ramm for £83, 1800 MHz processor, etc bargin!!!

Fair play to them

Cheers Phill C

when psu's go they often fry other components, including hard drives, i personally have lost 3 WHOLE machines at customers sites this month through power problems, and only salvaged the RAM and processor from each one, as there is protection circuitry on most modern motherboards to prevent damage to chips, not the actual boards though :|
