I thought the original ones were pretty poor but I lost months of my life to Delta Force Black Hawk Down online. Haven't played it for a few years now.

DF1 was amazing being the original and lost many hours of lost sleep to that going to bed at 2 and getting up at 6 for work. Playing online with work mates all the time so we were all just as addicted/sleep deprived. Only game where i've been part of a clan and played organised matches.

In black hawk down, 1 of the multiplayer maps had 2 villages in the desert about 2 miles apart. There were about 4 choppers permanently flying between the villages, landing and taking off again.
You could run the distance, which I never did, but I saw a few snipers trying.
Thought that was a great idea for a level.

Yep I know the one you mean and I also spent months playing it solidly. Bloody fantastic game. I've found the versions since then getting more complicated due to the increased use of vehicles. The first one was so simple with superb maps where you could go miles out to icy mountains and snipe those nutters doing knife fights in the middle of the map

Will give it a try tonight, although i have been hammering Arma2 now (31 hours on multiplayer
)
Took me a while to get the hang of Arma2 as its so dam hardcore, but i managed it in the end

Play said it came out last month buy is available to pre order so they've got that wrong somewhere. Only £9.99 as well. Novalogic is charging $29.99 direct from their servers.

The original would have been about that time. Are you referring to the graphics? Online play is what they concentrate on so having huge numbers of people on one map is far more impressive than say the 16 you get on COD4. You get proper battles when there are 30+ players per side and they are now upto a maximum of 150 players in a game now. 75 players per side is madness.

The graphics were poor, the sound was poor, although i have played games with worse sound, i tried some single player and the AI was terrible, i walked into a hut and saw this woman just looking at me pointing a gun, she refused to fire at me until i started shooting the wall

I never tried the multiplayer, might give it another go.
To be honest i suspect you will not be able to play Arma2 on your laptop, it needs a pretty hefty machine to make it run (ignore the min specs on the website)
My desktop is a q6700 quad @ 3.3ghz with a GTX275 graphics card and it only just seams to cope with it
