Removing a heatsink from PII slot processor?
#2
Lo,
I recently acquired an aging Poweredge 2200 server from work for my business. It's dual processor capable but is currently running a single PII 233 and a terminator in the other slot. I've stuck Redhat 7.2 on it.
I've also recently bought second hand two identical PII 233's to put in it (taking out the one in there as it's a different build version). So anyway I need to do some swapping round of the heatsinks as the ones I've got won't fit so I have to take off the heatsink of the cpu I'm taking out and put it on one of the replacement CPU's. Problem is the PII's I've dealt with in the past all have clip on CPU's whereas these are screwed on. It's held on with 4 'torx' screws but I don't have any tools that size and it's a right pain! I've tried using an allan key but that just mangles them up.
Anyone got any ideas how to take them off or where to get a proper tool to do it?
Also, does anyone know where I can a second Dell heatsink (with the thermistor on it for temp monitoring). Any help or tips most appreciated.
Ta,
Simon.
