Ah, so this would be to fix the issue announced at Black Hat 09?

Any idea if this is all it fixes or will it prevent jailbreaking?

Ok, not sure about purplera1n working, geohot hasn't mentioned anything as yet, but redsn0w 0.8 does work.

Yup, the black hack SMS exploit, which from what has been said is a little serious.

I'm just restoring my phone back to defaults to give purplera1n a shot, see if it deals with 3.0.1. As said, redsn0w 0.8 certainly does work.

I cannot comment on the unlock as I've never bothered to apply it as it isn't really applicable to me.

For me at least, using a Mac, purplera1n does not appear to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS running OS 3.0.1.

Why use Purplera1n? It's cludgey coding.

You think you're safe because Nokia haven't issued an update! Now that's funny.

Well done Apple for releasing the update and making sure it's easy to distribute and apply.

Enjoy it.

You're having a laugh, right?

Install iTunes, take USB to dock connector cable and put USB plug into computer, dock connector end into iPhone, launch iTunes if it does not auto-launch. iTunes should, once it has detected the iPhone pick up that there is an update for the iPhone (3.0.1). Select the Download and Install option, let it do it's thing and you'll be upgraded.

Then follow the guide Jack posted to jailbreak and unlock the phone.

Just tried using redsn0w, and doesn't seem to work for me, go with the requests of the programme, then when the transfer box comes up it'll download two files then just sit with 'waiting reset', any ideas people???

Did you do as it suggests and point redsn0w at the 3.0 firmware?

Yeah, fixed it now, when it's installing it just freezes, the fix is to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in, the load then continues.
