PS3 & AVI problems

PS3 & AVI problems
Guys,
I stream mostly movies to my PS3 from a laptop.
Some AVI's however will not work - unsuported data type appears.
I now have the most recent software update, and the particular movie which would not play now does, however there is no sound.
Works on the laptop etc, just not on the PS3.
If I convert using divx then it will work, however when I convert using this software the sound and picture are out of sync - any ideas why this would happen
Thanks,
Shaun

You get the same thing on WMV files. I downloaded one the other day, a HD format WMV, but when I played it on the PS3, no sound. I thought it was the file, bu a quick Google search and PS3 plays WMV, but does not support some of the sound formats. It plays fine on the PC and on the 360.

Some of your old **** movies may be encoded with DivX 3.11, a custom matrix or a sound format that isn't supported.
Best to convert to a compatible format or stream with something like TVersity.
If it's out of sync, try an audio format that isn't MP3. SUPER is a good program to convert with.

But I assume you then choose to pick the media server from the PS3, browsing to pick a video etc to watch.
Then eventually you'll run into the same problem as me.
I'm about to tread from *Nate* about configuring windows media player.
However I downloaded SUPER and convered my AVI movie from .AVI to .AVI and its converted with no sound or vision sync issues.
PS3MediaServer is great though isn't it - nice and easy, hassle free to install etc.
