is there a way to check if PCs are turned ON or OFF in a corp network? could use ping but too long for about 500+ PCs.

Google AngryIPscanner. Can get picked up by some AV software as unwanted but its a good fast subnet scanner.

or use the ping command with command line variable that reduces the data, timeout and number of replies

use it all the time, McAfee bitches about it so if you have it; put an exception in.

Look@LAN sounds the same as AngryIP - never had AV complain it on my PCs.
