torrent problem ?

Default torrent problem ?

my wife has just bought a new laptop so installed utorrent on it for her but the problem is when i go to mininova or similar to find a torrent it finds the torrent ok but when i click download this torrent the link does not work. if i right click it and open the link in a new tab or new window it works but it plays the song in new tab or new window confused, running vista and firefox thanks in advance

Sorry, I'm not fully understanding the question? You're clicking on a link to download a torrent file which doesn't work . . . but where does the song playing come into it?

it plays in the other window or tab it's just a long grey bar whith a slider that goes up it as the song plays

It sounds like it is downloading and playing it instead of downloading the torrent, which sounds very odd. Have you tried right click and 'save target as'?

Yes, sounds like you need to change the file association for .torrent files; as it appears to be associated with Media Player or similar.

the .torrent file is associated with utorrent as it should be. i tried it using internet explorer and it worked fine but when i use firefox it does not work would this suggest it is a firefox problem ?

Ah, okay, have a check in Firefox -> Tools -> Options -> Applications
Check that the file type is set to 'Save File', 'Always Ask' or 'uTorrent'

You could try resetting the download actions:

File types and download actions - MozillaZine Knowledge Base

I take it you have no extra plugins that may be causing issues?
