is a Seagate barracuda 7200.11 hard drive SETA or SETA II ?
firstly apologies, i'm a computer numpty so forgive me if the following is utter tosh
my hard drive died and my mate is putting a new one in and getting it up and running again, the old drive is a Seagate barracuda 7200.10 which is the older model and i can't seem to get hold of one.
so we're going for a 7200.11, but he said make sure it's a SETA interface and not SETA II (he can't think why it wouldn't work but to save any other issues we're trying to keep it as like for like as possible) and here's the problem. the seagate site says it's a SETA but some retailers are saying it's a SETA II.
so are there 2 types or are the retailers incorrect with their tech info?
or does it not matter?
any help would be much appreciated
Paul

Technically there is no SATA II. There's SATA 1.5Gb/s and SATA 3Gb/s; the latter being often incorrectly referred to as SATA II.
The 7200.11 range of drives appear to be 3Gb/s . . .
Barracuda® 7200.11 Hard Drives | Seagate
SATA is both backwards and forwards compatible, although some (read: very few) older motherboard chipsets won't work with 3Gb/s drives.
You'd be very unlucky if one of the newer drives didn't work

the computer can't be any deader than it is now if it doesn't work anyway

sata, seta....... it still means nothing to me
jpor - just sticking with the same kit that was in there. as is plainly obvious, i haven't got much computer savvy and my mate reckons they're ok so just went down that route

No worries there. Just that I've encountered issues with Seagate and Maxtor drives not lasting that long. I tend to stick with Western Digital drives as they appear to last longer an give better performance.
