Angry PC just resets

As above for no apparent reason it just switches off, screen goes black and just loads up like it would if I'd just switched it on. It can does this when its cold, the first time you switch it on for the day too. any ideas what up? its getting rather frustrating.

cheers

Since this problem has started have you added any programmes, removed anything, had a virus, changed anything?
Does the problem occur if you boot up into safe mode and run for a while?
Try going to the system config utility and try temporarily disabling all your programmes that start up automatically to see if the problem still occurs.

I wiped the hard drive recently because it was running like a bag of spanners, and was doing the same before, but it seems to be happening more frequently now

I have that if either the temperature of the CPU is too high or the power supply isn't up to the job. Check there isn't any rubbish in the case and that the fans on both the CPU and power supply are working.

Steve I opened the case up last night and took 2x 256mb of memory off so it's just 2gig and I blew a lot of fluff and dust from inside, and it's still reseting.
Is there any program I can download to check the temps?

CPUID (obviously checks a little more than just temps )

I used it when my PC would reset or freeze

If you're not getting the immortal blue screen, it's most likely an underlying hardware issue, especially if you've recently done a wipe and rebuild and that didn't fix the issue. As previously stated a good culprit will be your powersupply, as it's doing it from cold. Other possibilities include loose heatsink, or the cpu has come loose in the socket. loose or faulty memory or graphics card. You may be lumbered with swapping individual components, with spares if you have access to any. Try one item at a time. I've been in similar situations before and it can be a mare to find.

Chunky ive had an occasional, once or twice blue screen, but that's it. I'll have a look at the power cables. The memory stick are in OK, so cross that off the list.
myblackwrx i downloaded that program and installed it but as soon as it loads up the computer freezes, the mouse cursor doesn't move, and i cant even alt gr, crtl and delete to close the program down. i even removed it and re-downloaded it to no avail

download memtest (google it) it will rule out your memory being at fault
