50Mbit...Traffic Shaping?
#3
That's the problem at the moment. All the ISPs are changing their policies. You could move to an ISP without traffic shaping and find they implement it. You're then stuck for a year.
I'm with BT and they massively shape bittorrent during the evenings. Down to 5kB/s. Strangely it's been better for the last 2 days but still only 20kB/s.
As far as I understand with Virgin Media's 20mbit connection it would get reduced to only 5mbit after you've downloaded about 3Gb in the evenings but even 5mbit is hundreds of times better than my 3mbit BT connection which is then shaped down to a few kbit.
But, I heard that Virgin are going to start shaping bittorrent as well soon and who knows what speed that will be shaped down to.

As for 50meg, as stated there is no current shaping however they've said so long as you don't take the pi$$.. so make of that what you will

Some good details here on their currently throttling/shaping on other packages
Virgin Media Broadband:
I believe that Virgin intend to apply some limits to the 50Mbit package at sometime.
