On the maps bit of my Ipod touch I can use the bottom left Icon to locate me.
My Ipod Touch is a gen 1 so no GPS - how on earth does it know where I am just from my wi-fi connection - it's so accurate it actually puts me on the map to within 50 ft wherever i've tried it.

Any explanation for a simpleton like me

Great link thanks Steve, looks like theres a massive database of all wireless acess points and it just links a location to your access point.
Worrying to think they have this capability for private wireless access points though

 

I'll have to read up on The Cloud but i'd say not
