Default GP Legends replacement?

I'm getting fed up with the sound problems I'm having with GPL on XP and was wondering if there is anything on the market that compares in terms of driving realism.
I'm not into gaming but enjoy the odd few laps on GPL once in a while - still haven't cracked the 'ring in a decent time - limited attention span methinks!

So.......what is out there? I don't care about graphics or gimicks but it needs to drive as well as GPL.

I should put a vote in for the SIMBIN offerings. Used to race UKGPL but now do GTR2 with many of the old faces from the GPL days. There is GTL for older touring/gt class racing and RaceEvo is their latest offering but GTR2 is my fav and dirt cheap these days as it's been around a couple of years.

You could also have a look at rFactor which has a stupid number of mods available for it

rFactor.

Absolutly brilliant. The physics are not quite GPL, but 95% there. Considering the range of cars / tracks thats some going.

The level of detail is high and there are lots and lots of downloads and extra cars, tracks etc. You can even re-map most engines easily, and there is even a little tool that will give your dyno graph... very trick. You can even change things like how effective the cooling is (water AND oil!), or how much fuel the car uses.

The only snag is, once you start to tinker you will be hooked and you will spend hours making the cars faster etc etc.

Example dyno run.

You can drag the curve to whatever you want (assuming the clutch can take it).

Thanks for that I've tried the Live for Speed demo and will get a licence as soon as I can get it to work with a wheel. Mine is an old game port device running through a converter and I can't get it to work with LFS.
I'll keep an eye out for these GTR games. Is GTR2 the one to go for?
New wheel ordered yesterday.

I've not really played GTR Evo but bought it for a 10'er recently. GTR2 is very good IMHO. I've not done Evo much because because the league I'm in runs GTR2, www.simracing.org.uk

If your feeling flush the other one to check out iRacing, developed by Dave Kraemer himself but it's serious money as it's subscription based and all content costs as well.

iRacing looks interesting but I won't be doing any on-line racing and it all looks a bit too US biased for me to justify the cost.
I'll be getting a new laptop soon. Has anyone tried GPL with Vista?
