Default Which router? Most powerful wireless.

Dont keep up with the current trends in Router technology but i'm looking for an ADSL router to sit in an 1500's house with 2 foot thick walls and 1 foot thick walls. Built proper as we always say.

Currently have a Netgear 834 rangemax which works on the ground floor but upstairs the signal is very weak. The wireless receivers in the PC upstairs are Netgear WGT111's.

Question is whats the most powerful unit for under say £150 or a pair of routers which can be linked together, think the terminology is called "bridged?" but some of the Netgear stuff has a function where you can link two routers together. Second picks up the signal from the first and boosts it.

The house is about 45 foot square but quite old.

The wireless power is limited/dictated by the government. Multi In Multi Out will probably give the the most reliable service over an extended distance.

The frequency is set out by the IEEE Task Group. If you have enough coin, you can blanket a 3km radius area.

As for what router>

dabs.com - Draytek Vigor 2820Vn Dual Wan ADSL2/2+ Security Router (Wireless LAN & VoIP) (V2820VN)

Spend the extra 20 notes odd on a Draytek.

Tje other WAN port probably will not apply and the unit is ugly as sin, front mounting cables etc, but your ISP will 'most likely'? give you free VOIP minutes? plug your normal DECT phone in and away you go, attach printer (or any other device that is USB compliant) and share across you network, not to mention the stupidly customisable good Firewall.

You would be a king among ADSL/Cable router users.

Instead of ploughing money into a stronger router I would suggest these :

Networking - Wired - NETGEAR WGXB102 WALL PLUGGED W/L RANGE EXTENDER KIT RET Product Info - 0871 230 0540 Specialist in PC / Laptop Components Sales. CPU Memory Hard Drives Flash Networking ISC Online 0871 230 0540 Specialist in PC / Laptop Component

I went from a signal strenght of around about 20% to 100% instantly.

Hope this helps.
