Default Overclocking - Who indulges?

Hi folks,
Reading through here it occured to me that there must be at least a few overclockers on here?

Lets see pictures of the kit and some 3Dmark 06 scores too.

Im going to finalise mine tonight if baby will go to sleep so will try and update later.

Got my 3.00GHz E8400 running at a tasty 4GHz at the moment. Just trying to find the best core voltage. 1.30v seems to be holding it steady.

3DMark06. Do you just run the default, or anything special to get the correct comparative result?

I dabble about when I bored My e6400 2.13GHz will happily run at 3.2GHz on stock Intel fan since I changed the MoBo

However, I need to reinstall the OS as I swapped from a Asus to a Gigabyte board and nVidia to ATi gfx without touching the OS (vista sorted itself out...XP died ( - dual boot ). But its not quite right so will have to do a clean slate install when I bother to get round to it.

I'm yet to push the gfx (ATi 4870) and RAM (DDR2 800, rated for 1GHz), so there is more to squeeze out of it.

Some good PC's here.

kieran, run it at default settings to get a figure that is comparable in the industry.

Also, download Super PI (V1.1 ideally) and do some 1meg tests, see how fast she computes.

My Q6600 is running stable at 3.3GHz. Will have to try it a bit faster sometime... Would be nice if it will do 3.6GHz

Running my Q6600 at 3.4Ghz on a Titan Amanda cooler (which is overpriced and not that impressive TBH), finally got it stable after a lot of messing about
Currently weighing up whether to go for water cooling and try and crack 4Ghz

Thats running on an ASUS P5K-E M/B with 4Gb OCZ 6400 memory

Q6600 at 3.2 just to keep it quiet ! Asus P5K-E with 4 Gb of 1066 OCZ !

In a HTPC box, so really needs a vast PSU (?) to keep the noise down, and a better graphics card, and a HDsat card too !

LOL

'slight' problem with superpi.

16K takes 0 seconds.....

<edit>
However 32m takes 13m 23s
</edit>

Methinks Topdog has twin 4870s in his p.c.

Cor, you geeks

My overclocking goes back to the days of the Celeron 300a (300Mhz to 450Mhz) and the Celeron 566 (566 to 850).

Too much like hard work these days!

Wouldn't HiperPi be more suitable; as that seems to be better at stressing all of the cores?

I've got it running 3.44GHz tonight for the hell of it 1.47v core which is too high - the stock cooler is right at its limit now. I reckon I could lower that voltage and keep it stable though.

Anyhoo: 3dMark (trial version) on default tests gave me 12156 3DMarks - I'm sure that an be easily bettered

Oh , and Super Pi 1M : 17seconds

Here she goes.
Will play about some more tomorrow as I am knackered, well pleased with this though.

3Dmark06 = 20678.

Super Pi 1 meg time = 13.4seconds.

Good score Stu, what resolutions and what GPU's are you running? I can see 4870 but are they 4870X2 or maybe crossfire

Super Pi favour Intel and AMD doesn't really shine in that department, but I got a score of 17.535

not really been into the overclocking scene since the days of my first 486 tbh lol .... was planning on pin modding my laptop for a laugh since it's well and truly on its last legs these days and i'm currently trying to decide on the cpu for a new "work-horse" system .... choice is either the Q6600 or one of the Phenom blacks but i'm leaning towards the Q at the moment though - peeps seem to be getting better results from them and the linux support for them appears to be a bit better than for the Phenom too.

Couldn't get my Q6600 above 3200Mhz on a P5Q Deluxe. Going to try a new motherboard later.

Just to say I run 8x400Mhz. I always thought that a .5 multiplier wasn't good for memory access speed ???

Thanks, 3D tests left at standard settings as per standard benchmarks for Futuremark. (1280x1024) I wonder if setting my actual desktop to that would make any difference?

my system is as follows:
  1. Case: Coolermaster Stacker 830.
    Fans: 3x 120mm (1x front 1x rear 1x roof)
PSU: Enermax NoiseTaker II (600W) with twin fans.
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P
CPU: Intel Q9550 Quad Core 2.8ghz runing at 3.485ghz
CPU Cooler: Arctic Cool Freezer pro.
    Ram: 4Gb Corsair Dominator Twin X DDR 2 (1066mhz)
    Video: Ati radeon 4870 X2
Monitor: Dell 2408W running native at 1920x1200
    HDD: 2x Spinpoint f1s 500gb each
Ext Storage: 1x IcyBox external with 2x Seagate Barracuda 500gbs.
Sound: Soundblaster Fatality XFi With Front panel.
    Keyboard: Saitek Eclipse II
    Mouse: Razor Habu
Got a few spares left over if anyones interested?
Got a Core 2 duo and 4 gig of Twin X DDR2 800 (4x matched 1gb sticks) as well as 2 gig (maybe 4) of kingston DDR2 1066 from another project PC at work
.
