It was maybe a little bit trickier than described. Be prepared for a long wait whilst it's restoring and remember to repair disk permissions before turning Time Machine back on.
I went to 320gig from 120 so will be able to dual boot and carry more.
Moving from 1 to 2 gig of memory is something I should have done a long time ago.
Everything seems to be working as before and it's in sync with my phone and desktop.

I used SuperDuper - put new disk in USB caddy, image copy. Installed it. Turned it on and off we went.
Only differences were that the harddrive needed to have a new name and it had more space. Very, very easy and very quick.

Just noticed that because i have a Macbook Pro the upgrade is a little more tricky, and invalidates the warranty, but its out of warranty now anyway so that doesnt bother me. Looks like a 320gb drive will be finding its way into the MBP soon as it gets delivered

Out of interest what did you pay?
Mine
320GB WD Scorpio Black - 62.26
2GB Corsair 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 17.66
Delivery and VAT took that to £95.90
From CCLonline.com who I'd never used before but were very good.
It's a whole lot cheaper than a new Macbook and it's running OS X and Ubuntu very well indeed.
