brother dcp 135c good budget printer you should be able to bag one for sub 40 quid, print copy scan
single inks at low cost
canons also good, argos were doing a mp520 for 60 quid better than brother single inks too print copy scan
steer clear of lexmark and epson, even though the new epsons have single ink tanks they have **** all in them ink wise
if you need impartial advice pm me i sell the things for a living

Out your budget, but depdninging on your needs, I'll post it anyway:
I just bought a Canon Mp970 for £140 (they retail at £280).
Pros:
Good photo printing on A4 (7inks)
Ethernet
CD printing
2 feed trays
Scanner
CF/SD card reader
Nice big LCD display so no need for PC for printing pics
Good running costs (7 individual tanks @ approx £9 each - genuine)
Quick photo print speeds
Looks pretty
Cons:
HUGE! (compared to the i965 it replaced)
Heavy!
Uses ink even when rarely used (as do most Canons and Epsons with fixed heads)
No auto document feeder (ADF)
No fax
Print speeds on normal (normal mode) paper not anywhere near as fast as Cannon i965
Otherwise, good printer
(BTW superceeded by MP980 which has WiFi, but its a 5 ink colour printer and uses smaller ink tanks, so not as good for photos or high volume printing).
