Xbox 360, 5.1 dvd plasma hook up help
Hope someone can help me.
I've bought a HD Plasma tv with all the connections under the world in the back of it.
I've a 3 yr old Philips ld3700 dvd player.
I've got an Xbox 360.
I have the HDMI cable supplied with the Xbox (incorporating an digital optical port in it)
I have a newly purchased digital optical cable.
I have a scart lead and also assorted leads gathered over the years.
I can get dvd's and cd's to play through the surround.
I want to also get the 360 and the telly running through the surround sound but can't figure out how to wire it all up even after reading and getting various conflicting advise on other forums.
Anyone know how to do this? I'm getting seriously faffed off with it. Thanks.

post up a pic or model number of ur surround amp, also cant find reference to ld3700 dvd player, is the model number correct. or is it the lx300d home cinema kit.
if so, it only has one digital audio input so you can either just output your tv into the 'coax in' port of the surround unit, you'll need an optical to coax converter (about£15) and allow the xbox sound to be taken from the tv, although it will be an analogue signal into the tv (unless you have an elite and are using hdmi).
or you can get a digital audio splitter that will take multiple optical or coaxial inputs and output to optical or coaxial , you will need to select source though either by manually pushing a button, or by remote (cost decides)

all that sounds to much like hard work all you need is a set of rca leads red and white connectors from the rear of the telly audio out to the audio in on the dvd player,so your telly will need to be on component for picture and the dvd on an av channel to get the sound, wallah simple ill get my coat,or if the red and white audio leads from the xbox will reach the dvd red and white audio in,all the better but first way is best so you dont always have to have the surround sound on
ceri
or scart from dvd out to av1 on telly(should give you sound transfer so long as its a fully wired 21pin plug)
dont forget you will need to change the av channels on the telly

The dvd/surround/amp thing is a Philips LX3700D. My mistake with the model number. The diagram above shows what's in the back of it.
The Xbox is the 60GB one. There is a switch on the side of the av component cable to enable HDMI but does that say digital or analogue audio?.
Thanks for all the help guys. I'm rubbish at this sort of stuff and i'm not certain of the names of the different cables even. I have to Google them when they get mentioned.

rca leads or plugs are the round ones with a pin in the middle they are coming from the x-box,you have green blue and red,and red and white for the sound m8,you know the red and white next to the green blue and red in to the component on the telly, just un plug them then put them in to the back of the dvd red and white audio in

Im guessing your 360 leads going into the TV are the ones in the pic.
If so, remove the plugs from the AUDIO IN, you wont need these if you use the optical cable you have.
Then find a leads which has the same ends at both ends of the lead.
Plug one end into your AUDIO OUT on the DVD player and the other end in the AUDIO IN on your TV (the ones youve just removed).
Then get your OPTICAL cable and plug it from your 360, to the dvd player.
Once you get the leads in the right place, the hard work is done.

if you use phono to phono you will only have a stereo signal and not 5.1
he is looking for 5.1, and will need a optical to coax converter as there is no optical 'in' on the surround unit. may as well get a splitter to allow for future upgrades. go from the tv digitally too and any future additions like ps3 or bluray only need hdmi into the tv to allow 5.1. (although there is some debate about whether 5.1 is succesfully carried over hdmi).
as stated, go into the menu on your xbox to select digital audio
the optical out is on the component lead unit (on the boxy looking bit)
although the above post does seem like a much more sensible option for you, so you will need.
1 x optical to coaxial converter (must be that way around as you can get converters to do the opposite) Optical to Coaxial Digital Audio Convertor > Maplin
1 x optical lead Digital Audio Optical Lead > Maplin
1 x coaxial lead Digital Audio Lead > Maplin (a coaxial lead is a high quality phono lead with shielding, but no different really)
1 x pr of phono to phono (i.e. 2 phonos to 2 phonos) Stereo Hi-Fi Phono Leads > Maplin

stll think it a lot of expence for what he wants, when a £1.50 rca phono to phone lead will do the same thing.(how good are your ears m8)?
ceri
p.s. or the simple use of a scart lead will do,wont need togo any where then.

all you need to do is get a optical to coaxial convertor as the dvd unit has a coaxial in (not optical) Obviously you will need the dvd player to be on to get the sound and depending on your tv it may switch automatically to the dvd signal if you know what I mean (some tvs auto switch when they receive an inout signal)
Check the settings on your xbox to set it to digital output and job is done

rca will not do surround sound as far as i know??
what i have done is, 360 optical output to the surround sound system
360 hdmi lead to the tv
its really quite that easy (for me anyway lol) but i wanted a surround sound system without the dvd player for this reason (i hate loads of boxes under the tv)
i use the xbox for the dvd player and it looks spiffing (because its a sleek black elite unit )
