Had my computer now for over 6 years with no upgrades and its time for an upgrade.
I have spoken to the company who supply our business machines and this is the deal....
Pentium 3 processor, 256Mb RAM, 30Gb Hard drive, 12x10x32 CD writer, keyboard, mouse, ATI 32Mb Radeon graphics card, 56.6k internal modem, 19" Hansol monitor and windows 2000 installed...
.......£750 quid all in.
I'm not really up to date with current prices but having gone through the PC World website it seems like a pretty good deal.
BUT IS IT???
Cheers in advance,
David

whilst 933ghz would be nice, i fear its only 933 mhz at best. to get a feel for cheap prices take a look at the today special on scan - www.scan.co.uk/today.htm, you can pick up high specced systems for good money.

ATA66, ATA100 or ATA133 is the speed of the disk interface. It can make a surprising difference to how fast the PC "feels" in normal use.
ATA66 is to be honest a bit old hat now. It should be ATA100 but ATA133 would be nice

The new issue of PC Pro has a big of review of £999 PCs. This months winner:
Evesham Axis 1900+
Athlon XP 1900+ (1.6Ghz)
512MB DDR PC2100 RAM
80GB 7200rpm HD
ATI Radeon 8500 Graphics Card
Samsung 19" Monitor
Samsung 16 speed DVD-ROM
Samsung 24x10x40 CD Writer
Creative Audigy Player Sound Card with DTT2200 speakers
Windows XP Home
etc etc
IMO, buying a P3 based system is daft. They are effectively end of life now (for desktop machines).

Did you look at the Dell "factory outlet" The stock changes fairly quickly but as FJ says you can get P4's for around the same price, probably 17" monitor though. You still get full Dell warranty etc.
At a quick look P4 1.6, 256MB, CDRW, 40GB £650 inc vat but exc delivery, although you can normally persuade them to do free delivery.
You also still get the option to upgrade the specs, to a 19" monitor for example.
