Question

Using

ADSL with BT Openworld
Win XP & Norton Firewall 2002 (At home)
Win 98 & Norton Firewall 2001 (At work)

Home is dynamic IP work is static. I'm getting Various alerts (trojans) every day now, both at home and work. Should I be worried?

Cheers

As long as your firewall is blocking them I don't think you should be worried. Unless someone is systematically probing your PC for a hole. Check the source IP and see if they are from the same IP.

Also take a look at the Shields Up section on the Gibson Research website.

I keep getting the same problem. What happens if it is the same address again and again?

look it up through ripe There should be an entry regarding who to send abuse to. (or just try abuse@<host isp> if nothing specific. Most ISPs should do somehting about it.

e.g. the address 217.36.129.1 gives....

inetnum: 217.36.128.0 - 217.36.159.255
netname: BT-HEALTHNET
descr: BT-HEALTHMET
country: GB
admin-c: GM2854-RIPE
tech-c: GM2854-RIPE
status: ASSIGNED PA
remarks: Please send abuse notification to abuse@bt.net
mnt-by: BTNET-MNT
changed: preston.dialip@bt.com 20010717
source: RIPE

which says abuse should go to abuse@bt.net
