XP or Vista??
I suppose this is a question for you guys that have jumped shipped and moved over to the Vista OS.
Im in need of a new laptop, this thing is getting ridiculously slow so have been having a nosey around the usual sites. Im not after a mad gaming machine with graphic cards coming out of its ar*e and more memory than ill ever need, just something simple as all i do is web surfing and the occasional office related tasks.
I find XP very easy to use but i suspect thats because im used to it with 5+yrs on the system.
Anyway, a lot of the laptops im looking at have the Vista operating system, i know 1 chap that runs it and all he ever does is whinge about it, complains about navigating through the menus, system crashes so on and on...
However, its obviously newer and i would suspect more advanced than XP so there must be a whole load of benefits???
I was also reading Vista is about to be binned for Windows 7 come this time next year, so should i remain with XP or move over to Vista.

I was buying XP rather than Vista PC's and laptops at work 6 months ago, due to many horror stories, however I have finally gone for it and started getting Vista in, so far no problems (we have 8 PC's & 2 laptops on Vista now) and no user issues either, most people have got used to it very quickly, only advice is get plenty of RAM, minimum 2GB, preferably 4GB if you run lots of applications.

TBH I was never a lover of Vista until I started using it on my laptop {it replaced one running XP} having used pretty much all the operating systems Micro$oft have released I do feel that XP is probably the best one, however that would depend on your ability as it would seem Vista is designed more as a 'anyone can use' out of the box system if you know what I mean.
If you can get one running XP and your happy with it then do and see what the new release is like, otherwise broach into the Vista world but make sure the computer has plenty of memory as Vista is quite memory dependant for some things {all the flash and bangs}
All in this users opinion of course, people see differnet things in systems.

Vista over XP any day.
I've been running it since it launched and it's been far more stable and had far fewer issues than XP.
As mentioned above though, it needs 2GB+ of memory.

Vista over XP every time. Faster, more secure, better memory handling, less prone to fatal errors. If your hardware can cope with it (i.e. if there are decent drivers) then it should run just fine.
I'm running it on 4 machines, and XP on the other. Been using it for over a year and not had any problems at all. One of the machines only has 1GB of ram, and it still runs absolutely fine.
Next version of windows is going into beta soon, but don't assume that means that it will be going to the public any time soon. The beta / release candidate process can often take over a year. I will be surprised to see it on the shelves much before 2010...

Vista > XP no argument.
Microsoft Windows 7 Beta 1 Build 7000 is in beta and has been for a while, I have it installed on dual boot, it's pretty decent for a beta OS I must say. The effects and new features are pretty impressive.
