I have an old laptop that a guy at work wants me to fix. It had windows 95 on it but the hard drive has been formatted (don't know why). The computer goes in to DOS to boot up but stops. Pressing the f keys does not take me in to the BIOS so I can't boot from the CD and install windows. I have tried to make a boot disk with windows 2000 but this does not work. Anyone know how to install win 95 in this situation.

Cheers

Just grab hold of a Win98 bootdisk and that should give you access to the cd drive in DOS.There you can copy the Cab files to the hard disk and install from there.Dead easy mate!
If you don't have a Win98 bootdisk and have a look at http://www.bootdisk.com

Hope this helps?

Cheers,

Nick..

I take it it has a floppy drive and a CD which you can't access?
You just need to add the device driver for mscdex and the CD driver to config and autoexec files. Once you have access to the CD continue as normal

Wink

If you need a CD driver there is a program kicking around on the web called CDGod. It has a number of DOS drivers for CD-Roms and will try each until it gets one that works. It should then add the device in the config.sys and the mscdex in the autoexec.bat (I think) allowing you CD-Rom access.

It's only about a meg in size as well

You can get it here CD God

Edit : Oops, looks like you are sorted
