PS3 backwards compatibility bypass....

PS3 backwards compatibility bypass....
Does anyone know if there is a bypass that can be done to the PS3 80GB which allows it to play PS2 games?
I know only the 60GB models have this feature, but i have seen some info on you tube etc which leads me to believe there is some function that can be carried out to allow this to take place? Is this true or what is the story??
Cheers

The 60gb could do it because it essentially had the ps2 hardware wired into the ps3. This was removed with later versions, so unless you plan on rewiring the internals of your console, you're out of luck.
Why not just use a PS2?

The early 80gb PS3 machines had software backwards compatibility, but I seem to remember this was removed quite soon after launch (Sony trying to save money by not having to keep it updated).
