I installed the new Nvidia DetonatorXP drivers on my tbird 1ghx+geforce 2 gts 64mb and on boot up get a 'XP has recovered from a serious error'
50% of the time, I'd get a BSOD to do with nv4_disp.dll
So, I installed the original working XP detonator drivers, but I still get the error on Boot.
Anyone got this and recovered from it?
"Error code 100000ea, parameter1 820a7160, parameter2 821de700, parameter3 8239ca18, parameter4 00000001."

Hi..
I had the original nvidia drivers of the XP-Pro install disk and ran the system for a while with no probs..
I installed the updated nvidia drivers of windows update and starting gettin sporadic BSODs, I've since rolled back the driver and got rock stability again..
FWIW - I didnt see an advantage in the updated drivers...

Fosters,
What type of mobo do you have? I've an Asus P3V4X and a Prophet II video card and just rebuilt my PC with XP. I had similar things happen everytime it booted into XP. Finally got rid of them when I installed the updates for the VIA mobo chipset.

This is a known problem with Nvidia cards, XP & VIA chipsets. Normally it's caused when you have more than 1 SDRAM/DDR stick installed. Do a search on google for nv4disp.dll and you'll get lots of links...

Fosters,
XP is probably up-to-date enough not to require the VIA updates, but I don't think you'll get the best performance if you leave them off.
Either way, I couldn't get XP stable without installing them. I noticed another bug - if I install the 3D XP screensaver from Microsoft, the system reboots as soon as it's run.
Funny, when I had an older copy of XP professional installed some 2-3 months ago I never had any of these problems.

If anyone's gotta copy of PC Pro this month there's an article on this very subject where one of the writers had similar problems but on a Tyan board!
Cheers,
Nick..
P.S: Worth havin a look on the mobo manufacturers website to see what they have to say.I know Tyan mention this prob on their website!

I'm running the XP 23.11 drivers for my Ti500 without any problems. I never once installed the VIA 4in1 drivers.
Fosters, which version detonator drivers did you put on - so I can avoid them ?
Mobo = MSI, "K7 Master - S"
North Bridge = AMD 761
South Bridge = VIA VT686B

I've seen *exactly* that BSOD a few times recently (GF2 GTS w/ 23.11 ref drivers).
As for the serious error recovery message, yeah it's probably stuck on. It happened to me before some other hardware's not so XP compatible drivers had me BSOD and I got stuck with the serious error message until I went away for a few days over christmas with pc off, came back, turned it on, message no longer appeared.
Been thinking about rolling back my drivers as well...

I'm running the latest ones without any issue that Windows Update installed on a GeForce2 MX 100/200, file versions seem to be 6.13.10.2312 from driver details, the driver tabe has driver date of 10/12/2001 and version 2.3.1.2

Had a look through VIAs site and they come to the conclusion its essential to use an oversized power supply, as customers who are running with less than 300W were experiencing BSODs.
One guy even removed a DIMM to make sure things ran with less load at 3.3V, and he reckons switching to a bigger PSU did the trick.
For £15 it might be worth a try.

I'll give it a go. Also read the post and it looks reasonable, especially as I put an extra system ram dimm in and a performance cpu fan with 2 power sockets

The DIMM temporary solution appears to work. I have 2 x 128Mb and 2 x 64MB on a 250W PSU - :O
I removed the 2 x 64MB DIMMS at the same time as installing the VIA 4-in-1 drivers and everything's been stable since then.
Didn't seem to make any difference between the Hercules, NVidia or Microsoft-supplied drivers.
