Help ! Is the iMac DEAD .
Last night my wife switched the iMac off as usual after using it, no problems, everything perfectly normal.
Tonight when she tried to switch on...nothing. Dead. The wall socket has power as I plugged other things into it. I put a new fuse into the iMac plug. Still no response when the on button is pushed.
Is there anything else or has something failed within the imac and is a dealer repair job ?
Any ideas ?
Cheers

What type of iMac is it?
Does it do anything at all when you press the power button?
Try this, and you'll need an extra pair of hands, so get the wife involved
Get her to get ready to press the power button when you tell her to. What you need to do is to hold down the following keys:
Command (Apple) + Shift + P + R
Keep those held down, then tell her to press the power button, see if anything happens. If it does, keep the keys held down until you hear the startup sound twice, then let go and the Mac should boot.

Ah, is it one of the table lamp type ones then? If so, have a read of this and give it a shot (resetting the PMU)
It is possible the on-board battery has also died, which might cause problems, so it might need to be replaced.

Yes, it's a table lamp one !
I have read the reset PMU but it is still dead so I will give the dealers a call tomorrow and ask about the problem and if it might be the battery.
Thanks for the help/advice
