Default delay when click on folder in Windows?

Something has been bugging me for ages with my copy of Windows XP

Whenever I click on a folder, I experience a delay of up to 5 seconds before its contents can be viewed. Having just installed a new 640GB Raid array, the problem seemed to be at its worst.

ANYWAY, after a bit of research, it appears its down to the shell extensions some 3rd party software install in Windows.

Resolution: A quick way to fix this and get windows flying again is:

Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance Settings > untick box called "use common tasks in folders"

Thought I'd post this snippet on here, as my system feels MUCH more response when clicking on folders and context sensitive menu's

that's what I thought, specifically the disk controller, but I'm using two entirely different controllers (each linked to 2 drives) and the problem persisted, regardless of the drive.

I have a ton of software and somewhere the shell extensions for 3rd party software have something to do with it - I've heard the Nero one is particularly wobbly.
