There are ways to overcome the ISP blocking, but I would rather not have the information in the public domain (nor would anyone else I would imagine) as I have to pay the License Fee every year, I don't want people abroad using it if they are not paying for it, not saying that you haven't, but my point still stands.

Many of the suggestions on the Internet involve proxy servers which in theory would work if you could find one situated in the UK but there are very few which are free and even if you can find one, they are usually very slow and unreliable or simply do not work because they do not have Java enabled which is essential to access BBC Iplayer.

You can try here ....YouTube - Access BBC iPlayer from ANYWHERE

I've tried lots of times without success, but I know some people have got it to work so it is possible, I just now download the torrent and watch that, much easier

Tried it and ....

Currently BBC iPlayer TV programmes are available to play in the UK only, but all BBC iPlayer Radio programmes are available to you. Why?
If you are in the UK and see this message please read this advice.
Go to Radio channels home page

I would imagine this is the same as watching youtube movies in the UK. Currently only allowed to viewers in the US but its pretty straight forward to fool it.

First off delete your cookies, then get a UK IP from one of the many ip addy changing progs about, i used Hide My IP to get a US IP, not sure if they spoof UK IP's so you'll have to try it. After that change your clock settings to UK time zone and that should do it.

I have tried it and haven't managed to fool it into thinking I'm in the UK and I've tried various proxys etc..

I think the next step for the BBC would be to enter to licence details in the player if you are abroad and want to enjoy television whilst away.

I looked into it once before - not even from abroad - I get WiFi on the train, but Natioonal Express use a Swedish ISP so I can't even use iPlayer in the UK

Apparently there have also been problems with 3G data cards as the ISP's hadn't got around to registering them as UK.

BTW - Sky Player works OK if you download them in the 'UK' ie at home - for some reason they don't seem to need to check you're still in the UK when you try to watch (which is what iPlayer does)

How are you accessing the bbc.co.uk website? Direct URL or through a search engine?

As I'm on this thread, in the end I set up a VPN on my(Draytek) router and then it thinks I'm in the UK.

I also bought a Slingbox Solo which is a quite impressive little toy.
