If so try an update of the USB host controller. This often gets over written with updates and can malfunction. If you have them, install your motherboard drivers too.
Try a PCI USB card if the on board USB fails as it may be your actual board, or simply could be the headers on the board have come off. It does happen

I got a Blackberry phone and when the Usb is plugged in its not showing as plugged in. It doesnt recognise anything plugged into a Usb port. I have a cd installed for my camera, if i click on the program i can down load pictures. I cant just plug the Usb lead in and download pictures. Does that make sense? I have just done the Sevice Pack Upgrade on Windows.

Its not uncommon for a major update like service packs to over write the installed drivers. All I can suggest is install the drivers again. I assume you have admin rights on your pc and not a restricted user?
Also is there a memory card inserted in all the items?
If not then windows will not detect as a mass storage device.

Go to Device Manager in Control Panel and scan for hardware changes.
or
Start>Run>devmgmt.msc, then right click on "my computer" or what ever you have called it.
or
if you get lots of timeouts with add on hardware use the DevCon command-line utility..
The DevCon command-line utility functions as an alternative to Device Manager

I know with Nokia phones you have to install the Nokia Communicator software first which comes pre-bundled with USB drivers to communicate with the phone via USB. Maybe it's worth a trip to the blackberry site to see if something similar exists.
Failing that have you tried a bluetooth connection with the phone and the computer?
