Default PSU morals...

So, you have a new graphics card that needs a 12v rail that will supply 26 amps - that's 312 watts.

Your PSU is a real 550W that is really a 650W under the hood, but is only rated for 18 amps per rail.

All the reviews of the graphics card say that under load it doesn't use more than 170W (say, 15amps).

And in fact, the technical review of the psu reveals the 12v rail will provide 28amps without any problems.

So. 4 sata drives, a 9800GT 512mb and a Q9450... would you chance it on the 550W antec NeoPower HE?

Can't see a problem myself

comments?

My approach to my PC PSU is probably best summed up as:

1: Does it work?

2: Has the magic smoke genie escaped?

If the answers are "yes" and "no" respectively, it'll do.

Should be ok, but may not last long.
Antec - NeoPower 550
Might be an idea to sell the PSU on eBay while everyone is paying dilluded prices.

i think my PSU is fine.

I've been checking the 650/850/etc PSUs from tagan and antec and no single 12v rail supplies more than 22amps. then i figured you add the ampage for all the rails - you just have to distribute the load for the pc across all rails.

the 26 amps required by my 9800gt is power required for the whole PC and is well serviced by my 550W psu as long as everything is distributed along all the rails

we should so have an FAQ on this stuff :|
