Default Xbox 360 Problems

My son wants an Xbox 360 (60Gb version) and i have been doing a bit of research prior to buying. In doing so i have been surprised by the amound of unit failures.
The main problem, the 'ring of death' as its known renders the machine useless.
My question is, does this happen with newer units or is it still an ongoing problem.

It is still ongoing but you can just give them it back and they will replace it

The latest revisions have virutally eradicated this issue. I wouldn't think twice about buying one now.

Apparently the newer units with 175w power block (brick) and later chip run cooler? That's what I read via different forums.

With the special offer prices recently I decide to get one.
So I went to comet and got a price match with Sainsbury offer.(140gbp)

I made sure I got the hdmi port connection console, this had the 175w power brick etc and was one of the newer units.

But this failed on installation with the dreaded ROD.

So from my experience I would say that have not completely fixed the rod issue's.

But then again its still covered by the 3 year warranty.
