I'm just fitting out my house/new extention with a CAT 5 based LAN, (upstairs only) But I wanted to maintain my current wireless network (802.11g).
Unfortunatly my current ADSL router has now moved another 5m further away from the lounge (into a new study) and using the laptop wirelessly is now a bit hit and miss...

So

I've seen this

Has anyone got any feedback on this equipment?

Or any other wireless ADSL routers (with 4 LAN inputs) they'd recommend?

Have they ratified the N standard yet?

You'll only get the N speed with complaint hardware in the Laptop / pc / whatever.

but the improved range should help irregardless of the speed

Surely unless the OP is using draft-N (or whatever N 'standard' it uses) client hardware - in the PCs / laptops - then he'll be in no different position to using an 802.11g router???

The speed AND the distance benefit only comes from the N standard... so it'd require N clients to benefit from the speed AND the distance. With standard G clients it'll be standard G speed AND range... surely?

Unless you plan to put N hardware in your laptop, just stay with G and sort out the coverage - either with better (high gain) aerials on the router (check Maplins) or with 802.11g range extenders:

In a word, yes. But make sure you get a Belkin RangeMax, etc. etc. one - ie from the same manufacturer as the router, as it's not a ratified standard they don't all work with eachother.

...and tread carefully, as it might not give you everything that you're expecting! It's cheap for a reason....
