Default This may seem a daft question, battery in a laptop ?

This may seem a daft question to more experienced people but is it safe to run a laptop on the mains without the battery in, what i mean is does it need to be part of the circuit for any reason at all ?

Basically i am running my laptop from the mains and it will always be that way as its a direct pc replacemt as i prefer a laptop to a pc, its a sony vaio laptop i have. The documentation insn`t clear on this subject hence the need for the question, my instinct is that its ok but its always best to ask those with more knowledge.

Yes it is fine if the laptop actually works. Some refuse to switch on if there is no battery in there.

I ran mine off the mains with the battery in, and over 3 months the battery life halved. My son's battery was affected in the same way.

I always take the battery out when I run it on the mains now.
