Default dvd ripper

i want to add some of my dvd's to my ipod or to my media centre (laptop) so i can watch them while i'm travelling without having to cart the originals around with me. tried a few times with a few different things, but i'm looking for free software which will convert all of the dvd's (ie not trials or software with 50% only limitations etc) and haven't found anything yet

can anyone recommend suitable software please?

i didn;t mess with any of that, so it tried to go for mpeg4 straight away. i'm happy with that, so just wanted to get one episode done so i could check it and then review how i wanted to save it (if i wanted a different format, i would have just re-ripped it)

I'm probably doing it wrong, but I've somehow got this working using DVD Shrink first, then Handbrake to convert to the correct format for my Touch.

All free and unlimited.
