Default I need some help with a windows vista problem.

I have just got a new computer with windows vista ultimate on it, its a 32 bit version. All the text on things like google searches seems so tiny and its not easy to see, some websites are just centering in the middle of my screen and its not filling the whole screen.

Its a 17 inch laptop with a screen res of 1920 x 1200, any ideas how i can change this so its normal text size again and so that websites fill the full screen instead of centering in the middle sometimes with small graphics etc.

You can hold down control and scroll the mouse wheel to adjust the text size.

Sounds to me like the resolution is set way too high. 1920 x 1200 sounds very high for a 17" native resolution.

Right-click the Desktop, Personalise, Display Settings, change to something sensible

I run my laptop in 1920x1200, and that's only got a 15.4" screen

I have changed the resolution which is now a lot better, its a full HD laptop with blu ray so i`ll just change the res back to 1920 x 1200 for when i am watching a blu ray film.

cheers

Borat - what model laptop is it? You can check the native resolution of the screen to check you have the correct one set

In that case it may well be 1920x1200 native; plenty out there with 15.4" displays. If its still clear at a lower resolution for general browsing, then you're probably taking the best course of action . . . especially if you value your eyesight

Edit: Which Iain clearly doesn't

I have set the resolution at 1280 X 1024, is this ok ?

In the display settings it says digital flat panel (1920 x 1200 60Hz) on Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT if thats any use.

That means that the native resolution is 1920x1200. Setting a lower resolution will make things bigger, but you'll lose image quality.

p.s. Dunk, I wish I could set a higher resolution sometimes

1680x1050 on a 15.4" Dell XPS1530 If it's too small change the font size to 120DPI. Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization, look on the left hand side, that way you keep resolution, but text is more legible.

If that fails
