Question Home Cinema Projector Advice

Our house was the show home and as a result the double garage was the sales office and is basically now a third reception room. (they gave me a nice detatched double garage as well )

Its about 5m square and we use it as a games/exercise room.

I alreadt have a sofa against one wall and am thinging about putting in a screen and projector in for movies and maybe PS3 gaming.

I know nothing about projectors but im wondering if 4.5m from projector to screen is too far??? Id be interested to hear from anyone wjo has one??

My other concern is that we have a pub sized pool table in the middle of the room and im worried about it interfering with the bottom edge of the projection (cutting it off) if the screen is too far away.

I think the solution to both your problems is to mount the projector on the ceiling and run the cables in the roofspace. With my projector (Epson TW10) a 4.5 metre distance would require an approx 150" diagonal screen and the image would be too dim.

I think anything more than a 84" screen is overkill and that requires a distance of 2-3m

My projector(Epson TW1000) is about 4.2m away from my screen(88") and is fine. I would recommend a 1080p projector if are using a PS3, it looks great.

This Sanyo PLV-Z2000 Projector (PLVZ2000) has received good reviews, it has a 2x zoom and lens shift. It gives you the flexibility if you move the projector in to another room etc. Ivojo are very helpful and will give you advice on the best projector.

Also, have a look at www.projectorcentral.com, they have lots of projector specs and a handy projection calculator.

I have a sony projector which is 3m from the screen and it projects say and 8ft picture. My projector is designed to throw a bigger picture over a shorter distance so I don't know if this is common with most modern projectors now?

If you are using a double garage there will always be somewhere for you to mount the screen and still have al your other things in the way

My projector is ceiling mounted and plays on an 8ft screen. I sit about 3.5m from the screen and I really only use it for my xbox 360 in high def, but due to the size you have to look all around to watch the game instead of just seeing everything on say a 40" tv

If you're going to get a projector, I can highly recommend an HD one. That will REALLY hurt the wallet - well over £1k for something decent, but so so worth it. Best thing I've ever bought.

The Epson TW3200 actually looks pretty good for £900.

http://www.projectorshop24.co.uk/eps...son-eh-tw3200/

Seems to be better than mine for spec and reviews, though mine is nearly 4 years old now and its design is older than that.

I'd certainly be happy with the Epson.

My one is the BenQ W1070.
BenQ W1070 Digital Projector: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics BenQ W1070 Digital Projector: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

It is HD1080 ad 3D and cost £640 from amazon.
The electric screen was £150 and the DVD/3D sound system only £450.

With leads and ceiling mounts, the total cost was well under £1400.

So, less than a good set of new alloys.

I did look at blinds, but to be honest the screen is one big blind and that picture was at the brightest part of the day. I still might get some for the summer,

Which PJ did you go for Hol?

I have an Optoma HD800x at the mo and was toying with changing to a 3D PJ.

Trouble is its about 4.5-5m from the screen (105") and I don't think theres much around that works with those distances/dimensions. Some of the Epsom ones may but right on the limit of their specs IIRC.

I bought the benq w1070 I linked above. It had the best reviews for a budget 3d unit.

The one Stevebt has linked to also has good reviews.

I have only tried mine on hd, but I am going to test out my cinema glasses on a 3d film as £2.99 is much cheaper than the £40-50 that these projector companies want for a pair.

I'm off to the NEC this weekend, so won't be able to try it then but hope to feed back the results soon.

Well, at least your weekends will be cheap for a while!

What size screen you going for? Mine is 100" - would like to go a little bigger, but the room won't take it Our tv is 50" aswell, but it just doesn't compare.

Screen-wise - anything with a proper blacked out back to it will be fine really. Some folk just paint their walls white Expect to pay £1-200 depending on size, unless you fancy a posh electric opening one.

'kin ell, you'd need some size of room for 150"

Seriously, no need to spend mega bucks on the screen. As long as its flat, white and black backed that's all you need.

I got a 16:9 motorised 120 inch one for £129 on amazon.
It's the one in my pics.

It was the last one he had, but there are some sellers with real bargains if you keep searching.
