PS3 / Surround sound question?????
Hi all,
I've just bought a PS3 (80gig) and i was wondering if i can connect it to my surround sound in any way? I don't have an all singing all dancing surround sound player but i wanted the benefit of blu-ray with the sound to match!
Any help is appreciated..

You can use the optical output, But if your amp as an HDMI input your better of using that for both picture and sound.
You will also need to set the PS3 to output audio in PCM not bitstream.

Another option is to use an HDMI cable to your tv from the PS3 and then an RCA audio cable from the audio out on the tv to your amp
this is the way I have mine hooked up as my amp does not have an optical input, i use a gold plated lead for the best sound I can get with what I have

Your PS3 will play DVD's, with surround sound, and games with surround sound, and BluRays with surround sound, all through a single connection from the PS3 to the amp with an optical cable, and just carry the picture from the PS3 to the Dispay over HDMI.

Same here Mines connected to my ageing Sony DVD/Surround system using optical, and video straight to the TV over HDMI.
I use a 3-way optical switcher to select sound from the 360, PS3 or Sky+.
Which make/model surround system are you using?

if the dvd/surround combo has an optical input, then just use the ps3 for everything IMO
one of the reasons i picked my surround system was that it did not have the dvd player built in, which most seamed to have when i was looking at them!
