Question HELP - Itunes/Ipod touch sync issue....

Well, I'm buggered if I know why the following is happening BUT....

Ipod Touch with 2.0.2 firmware (just upgraded)
Itunes 7.7.1

When I upgraded the Ipod, it flushed the Ipod (as expected).
I've been trying to get my library of music back on to the Ipod with varying degrees of success SOME songs will sync, others won't with the message being displayed about the file "cannot be played on this Ipod"

Am I missing something here, because they ALL played beforehand!!
Is it some nasty little DRM issue or simliar embedded in OS 2?

I wouldn't mind if the songs were dodgy, but they're just my ripped CDs.

Any suggestions?

Dan

Can you play the song in iTunes? Is it one that has been downloaded from the iTunes Music Store, if so, it might be that you're not signed into iTMS and so it cannot validate the DRM, and it won't copy the file over. Once you are signed in it will be able to validate things and should be ok.

Try the "Get Info" command on one file that won't copy and one that does and compare the info, specifically the "Kind". what does it say?

hmm, interesting.

They're mostly songs that won't play in ITunes
I've got info (file size is TINY), and also "show in finder"
It finds a file called "InstallationCheck.strings"

Looks like I've got a corrupt library

Any ideas how to fix it!!

Does sound like the library is messed up. As for fixing it, only way I know of is to delete/rename the existing library file in ~/Library/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music Library (That's the Library folder in your home folder) and then fire up iTunes, go into Preferences -> Advanced -> General and ensure "Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to Library" is *not* checked, then use the "Add to Library folder" and select the folder(s) where your music is located. This will create a new library file.

yeh - sorted now.

Just recopied over the files and all is well.

BUT, there are some issues between Itunes 7.7.1 & Iphone/Touch 2.0.2....
Check em out on the Apple discussion forums (causing Ipod/phone apps to crash etc)
